Doris Duke had a keen eye as a collector and followed this passion throughout her life. The European fine art collection, assembled largely by James Duke, Miss Duke's father, includes artists such as Renoir, Gainsborough, Van Dyck, and Joshua Reynolds. Miss Duke continued to add to this collection as well assembling a remarkable assortment of Chinese porcelains including several Ming Dynasty pieces.

This silver swan centerpiece by Tiffany & Company, was exhibited at the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia and believed to be the only one of its kind, recently became part of the permanent collection when it was acquired from the
Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.
