STROLL
THROUGH THE HISTORY OF ROUGH POINT’S LIVING LANDSCAPE
The Rough Point Garden and Grounds Tour will take you back
over 200 years to a time when this part of Newport was active
farmland. Experience the creation of the renowned father
of landscape architecture, Frederick Law Olmsted, who designed
the grounds at Rough Point as well as New York’s Central
Park. This look at the landscape will also reveal the evolution
of Newport as one of America’s best vacation destinations,
beginning with the early period summer cottages to the grand
grounds of America’s wealthiest families. Today, the
Newport Restoration Foundation preserves the distinguished
history and design of this landscape while providing visitors
with exquisite gardens and breathtaking views.
Fridays at 10:30 am and 3:00 pm through October.
$5 per person, paid at Rough Point at the time of the tour.
