The 2005 special exhibition at Rough Point, Jet Set
to Jeans: The Wardrobe of Doris Duke, for the first
time opens Doris Duke’s wardrobe to the public
to reveal the many facets of Doris Duke’s personal
attire and a microcosm of 20 th century fashion history.
The exhibit features over eighty pieces from her collection
ranging from couture clothing by designers such as Fortuny,
Balenciaga, Grès, Dior, and Ungaro as well as
various pieces of casual clothing such as designer jeans,
cashmere sweaters, and a Jantzen swimsuit.
This publication was produced to accompany the fabulous introductory
look into Miss Duke’s clothing. Set in style and tone
as a period fashion magazine, the publication takes you through
the various decades of fashion and includes photographs of
all the major clothing pieces in the exhibition as well as
a series of photographs of Doris Duke through the decades.
The magazine includes articles about Miss Duke’s approach
to fashion as well as various designers and concepts in fashion
history. The magazine provides an informative and fun look
into Doris Duke and the world of fashion.
