Doris Duke’s Newport summer residence, Rough Point, presented an extensive and astounding jewelry exhibition in 2003. “Gems From The East And West; The Doris Duke Jewelry Collection” was composed of a compilation of pieces amassed by Doris Duke and her family over the course of more than a century. Over 100 pieces were displayed and included works by the likes of Verdura, Cartier, Seamen Schepps and David Webb.

To accompany this exhilarating exhibition a remarkable catalog, by the same name, was produced. “Gems From The East And West; The Doris Duke Jewelry Collection”, breathtakingly documents not only the pieces that were showcased in this special exhibit, but the entire collection of jewelry owned by Miss Duke at the time of her death. Over 300 color photographs, as well as essays about the jewelry, and Miss Duke, strongly complement this book.
